Settling Back in at Home

We're having a good time settling back in at home. The first 4 or 5 nights or so were a bit brutal as Baby K did not know when to sleep and when to play! Waking up at 3:00am, (assuming you even got to sleep before that...) was very hard, and girlie girl just wanted to play and also cry. We would hold her until she fell asleep and then tried to put her in the crib. As soon as she felt her body pull away from ours, she'd cry & remain inconsolable for me. She still preferred Daddy at this point, so that made it hard for all of us as well. Fortunately daddy had some time off, so he could spend some quality time with her. We decided to have her sleep with DH & I. This makes life much easier for her and for us. If she wakes up, we are right there to comfort her and put her back to sleep.
It took about 4 days before she allowed me to console her. One night, I started singing "Ode to Joy" to her, and much to my surprise, she quieted and went to sleep. (This is a much better reaction to my singing than I usually get!). From that point on, she was OK with me holding her and calming her down. She still prefers daddy, but now it's a special treat when he comes home from work.
She's been discovering new foods. We've tried macaroni and cheese (love it!), peas (those too). We mow down Spagetti-O's like there's no tomorrow (OK, mommy caved on these - too tired to make anything fresh those first few days). We still love eggs, but have discovered bacon (YUM). Cheese crackers rock, and so do "wagon wheels", and toddler puffs. Not surprisingly, asparagus doesn't do the trick.

Here are some pictures of her the night we got home. Checking out her room, meeting Caesar the pug for the first time, riding her scooter, and general playing.

Good to see the update. Yes, sleeping is a priority for us (we are up again at 3:30 a.m. today after getting AA back to sleep! I think I had four hours of sleep. Looking forward to nap time!!

I love the photo with Caesar - he looks super-curious and she not so sure!!

Getting settled at home took a long time for us too - sleep was tough for quite a while.

Take care,
