Travel Posts

Since we didn't get to post any trip details while in China, I'll post details now while I can possibly still remember them!
And, of course, baby pictures.

Travel - Part 1 - Hong Kong - Sept. 19th - 21st.

We arrived in Hong Kong on September 19th in the evening. The flight over was so incredibly long - about 15 hours not including our jaunt from Denver to L.A.X. Watching T.V. and movies helped, but it's still a long flight. We flew Cathay Pacific and we had a fairly good experience with them. The food was rather bad, but we made do. The plane wasn't full, so we could spread out as needed.
When we landed in Hong Kong, we were met by our guide, Joey. The 2 things I noticed right away about Hong Kong was the heat & high humidity when we stepped out of the airport, and the city lights. They are incredible! We stayed on the Kowloon peninsula, at the Regal Kowloon hotel. The city is beautiful and very densely packed. The hotels around ours had a laser light show every night. The hotel was nice, clean & had a great breakfast buffet. Most of the staff spoke English, and we had no problems communicating. Our guide for the tours was Michael. A funny man who took us around the city and sights. We saw Victoria's Peak (the highest point in the city), and took a ride on a sampan (a type of boat). We toured a floating city. There are people who live their life on boats in the harbor. There were floating restuarants, a gambling riverboat, and the contrast between the rich and poor there is very apparent. We toured a jade factory where we bought a jade piece for Kristen when she gets older.
At the end of our tour, the tour bus broke down on a busy highway into the city, and we had to improvise. We took a city bus into town, then finished with the subway ride near our hotel. It was great fun, and we got to spend some time with the locals and walking the city streets. All in all, we loved Hong Kong.
